Program Director Welcome Letter

Welcome to OSU Gastroenterology.

Our goal is to train gastroenterologists to be highly competent in a clinical specialty that is both clinical and procedural at its core.  Our three year program is initially accredited by the ACGME.

Our curriculum is designed to meet the ACGME requirements and ABIM requirements for certification in gastroenterology. Clinical rotations will develop Fellows to be independent in practice in both the clinical side as well as the procedural side at the completion of three years. Autonomy in clinical decision making will be developed through direct interaction with our faculty.

Our program includes several training sites, however the bulk of training will occur at Saint Francis Hospital. Saint Francis is a 1,200 bed hospital and serves Tulsa and the surrounding rural areas thus capturing both the urban and rural side of practice.

Clinical training is augmented by a robust schedule of conferences including Clinical Case Conference, GI Core Curriculum, Tumor Board, Interdisciplinary Conference and Grand Rounds. Fellows are encouraged to initiate and develop plans for research projects and each fellow is required to complete a high quality scholarly activity project suitable for publication or presentation during their fellowship.

The Gastroenterology Fellowship accepts three highly qualified physicians per year and we continually strive to foster a family atmosphere where fellows can develop into excellent clinicians. Selection is based on board performance, the quality of training in Internal Medicine, evaluations of competence by the internal medicine program director and other references, and the personal qualities of the candidate as evaluated during the interview process.

Feel free to contact us with any questions you may have regarding the fellowship or the application process.

Sincerely,

Andrew S. Crawford, DO, MBA
Program Director
