Academic Success

OSU Center for Health Sciences maintains a focus on the success of its medical students, graduate students, physician assistant students, residents, and fellows by offering individualized advisement and counseling in career development, study strategies, and academic skill development through the Office of Academic Success (OAS).

Academic Advisement

OAS helps medical students, graduate students, physician assistant students, residents, and fellows by:

• Offering individualized academic counseling
• Administering learning inventories
• Creating individualized success plans
• Facilitating resources for improved academic performance
• Conducting on-campus presentations
• Assisting with test-taking strategies
• Advocating for student success

Career Development

OAS helps medical students prepare for residency by:

• Offering advisement on ACGME residency placements
• Providing ERAS application access and advice
• Editing CVs and personal statements
• Compiling and editing student information for MSPEs
• Offering mock interview program, Big Interview
• Organizing student events such as the Residency Fair
• Providing tokens for Careers in Medicine

Medical Advisement and Professional Skills (MAPS I - IV) Courses

MAPS includes four total courses with one course being completed each semester during Year 1 and Year 2. The courses will focus on the developing the following:

• Academic Advisement: Guidance and counseling on strategies to improve student success in preclinical courses and board preparation.
• Career Advisement: Career exploration and planning, as well as application readiness for graduate medical education
• Professionalism: Development of professionalism and other related skills essential for success in the medical profession.
