Training and Education
The OMECO/Oklahoma State University is funded for 40 total resident training positions. Ambulatory care and comprehensive family medical services are emphasized. A substantial portion of the resident’s time is spent within their assigned continuity clinic site learning ambulatory care by interacting with patients, their families, faculty, and clinic staff.
Each resident is afforded the opportunity to extend their knowledge and skills to all areas of primary care through 6 electives. The residency program offers a well-rounded, quality training program in family medicine and is designed to prepare each resident for a successful career in family practice.
Our program uses the clinic-first or 2+2 model. This model includes 13 blocks during the academic year. During these blocks, residents spend 2 weeks in their continuity clinic and 2 weeks on a specialty rotation. This model improves continuity, increases patient satisfaction, and gives residents a better work-life balance.

- Longitudinal Curriculum throughout the training program to include: Point of Care Ultrasound, Home Visit, Nursing Home Rounds, and Population Health
- The residents enjoy having their own inpatient hospital service where they care for patients supervised by Family Medicine faculty.
- Residents have the benefit of performing osteopathic manipulation in their continuity clinic and in the hospital
- Frequent Wellness activities

OSU Medicine providers offer comprehensive medical care for the entire family – from newborns to seniors. In addition to diagnosing and treating illness, they provide preventive care, including routine checkups, health-risk assessments, immunizations and screening tests. Family physicians also manage chronic illness, often coordinating care provided by other subspecialists. From heart disease, stroke and hypertension, to diabetes, cancer and asthma, family physicians provide ongoing, personal care. We have bilingual staff to assist the Hispanic population.

Along with family medicine, our Women’s Health Center located here provides prenatal care and women's health care. We also offer Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine at this location. Using OMM, our physicians can help relieve neck, back, and other acute or chronic pain without surgery. Our services can help treat asthma, sinus disorder, carpal tunnel syndrome, migraines and more. We have bilingual staff to assist the Hispanic population. The Healthcare Center is conveniently located six blocks from OSU Center for Health Sciences, and 10 blocks from the OSU Medical Center.

The country's largest single-site osteopathic hospital, OSU Medical Center, is located just blocks from the OSU Center for Health Sciences. Because the medical center sees a wide variety of high acuity cases, the postgraduate training programs are seen as a critical priority by the medical center staff and administration.

Staff physicians have trained at some of the nation's most prestigious medical institutions and have a high regard for their personal role in postgraduate education. Internships and residency positions in many different disciplines are available. OSU Medical Center is significantly involved in clinical training for medical students, nurses, therapists, and technicians from several area schools and colleges.

Medical Student Clerkship
The Family Medicine Clerkship is a four-week block that takes place in the OSU Health Care Center and OSU Physicians Clinic Eastgate Metroplex.
This setting provides a unique opportunity for direct patient care, access to a fully equipped laboratory and X-ray facility, as well as a variety of specialty clinics providing on-site consultation services. In addition to learning from supervised patient care experiences, a variety of additional learning experiences will be incorporated.
