Curriculum

The PhD degree in Forensic Sciences is a highly interdisciplinary research degree program involving advanced coursework in a number of forensic disciplines. Graduates of the PhD degree program will have advanced knowledge conversant in a broader range of forensic disciplines than one with a master’s degree.

Career options for these graduates may be in the management hierarchy of a forensic laboratory or law enforcement agency or as faculty in undergraduate or graduate forensic science programs.

School of Forensic Sciences Ph.D., application priority deadlines are October 1 for spring admissions and February 1 for fall admissions.

PhD Admission Requirements:

• PhD applicants must have a Master's degree.
• Three letters of recommendation preferably from professors and/or supervisors familiar with the applicant’s academic ability, work ethic, and skills.
• The TOEFL or IELTS is required for proof of English proficiency for international students.
• Applicants are encouraged to contact a potential faculty mentor and confirm their mutual interest in the mentor/mentee relationship.

Topics discussed during these initial meetings could include:

• Personal career goals and how the Doctoral degree will support those goals; Research interests; Any emphasis desired in coursework available in the program
• Verification of forensic-related employment (for applicants to the AEFTI specialization) to be sent by employer. The Forensic-related Employment form may be requested by emailing sarah.vizza@okstate.edu
