Changing the Health Care Landscape in Downtown Tulsa

Transformational health care is coming to downtown Tulsa. The OSU Academic Medical District will soon be home to a new Veterans Hospital, the Oklahoma Psychiatric Care Center, biomedical research facilities, upgraded OSU Medicine clinics and an expanded OSU Medical Center. Spanning multiple city blocks from 11th to 3rd Streets along Houston Avenue, the Academic Medical District will impact lives with the biggest investment ever in downtown Tulsa. Coming in 2026

Veterans Hospital in Tulsa

Construction is underway for the new Veterans Hospital in Tulsa, one of the anchors of the Academic Medical District in downtown Tulsa. The 275,000-square-foot facility, located in the former Kerr-Edmondson buildings, will serve the health care needs of veterans living in Tulsa and northeast Oklahoma. About 65,000 veterans live in the Tulsa area, and the new VA hospital will be able to better serve patients through a partnership with the OSU Medical Center and residency programs with OSU Medicine.

Oklahoma Psychiatric Care Center

The Oklahoma Psychiatric Care Center, which broke ground in 2023, is the next major piece of the Academic Medical District. The Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services will operate the 150,000-square-foot center, which will double the number of beds in its existing facility in Tulsa. The new Oklahoma Psychiatric Care Center will mean expanded access to psychiatric services, some of which will be provided by OSU Medicine residents and physicians.

Transforming Care in Downtown Tulsa

The Academic Medical District is a bold vision of treatment and research and the largest ever health care investment in downtown Tulsa. The VA Hospital in Tulsa will serve those who have served with state-of the-art facilities and services, and the Oklahoma Psychiatric Care Center is the next step in making mental health a priority in Tulsa and the surrounding area. OSU Medical Center will undergo multiple phases of improvements and expansions in the coming years, and a new biomedical research facility will revolutionize the areas of pain and addiction research.

OSU Medical Center

For decades, OSU Medical Center has been the only hospital in downtown Tulsa. Along with the 556,000-square-foot hospital, OSU Medicine also operates 10 primary care and specialty clinics in the Academic Medical District. In the coming years, a multi-phase renovation, improvement and expansion plan will begin on the OSU Medical Center facility and property.

Biotech Life Sciences Building

The Academic Medical District will not only encompass centers of care and healing, but also a state-of-the-art biotech research and development laboratory focused on studying pain and developing addiction solutions. This facility will become a hub of neuroscience research partnerships and a start-up incubator for research initiatives that will pursue federal grants.
