ROTC Med Bound Program

The ROTC Med School Bound Program offers a clear path for Reserve Officers’
Training Corps (ROTC) students to apply to OSU Center for Health Sciences,
College of Osteopathic Medicine during their freshman year of college at
Oklahoma State University (OSU).

Applicants must be able to demonstrate a strong interest in medicine, effective
leadership and communication skills, emotional maturity, and other non‐technical
skills that reflect the knowledge and aptitude necessary for the successful
practice of medicine.

• How Does the ROTC Med Bound Program Work?

  • ROTC candidates apply during their freshman year at OSU.

  • Qualified applicants will be invited for an interview in the fall semester of their freshman year.

  • This program guarantees an interview for admission to OSU-COM for applicants who meet listed requirements. It does not guarantee qualifying students admission to OSU-COM unless they are accepted to the program following an in-person interview.

• Eligibility Requirements for Applicants to the ROTC Med Bound Program

  • Enroll as a full-time student at Oklahoma State University.

  • Participate in the OSU ROTC Program.

  • Achieve at least a 3.8 unweighted grade point average in high school.

  • Achieve an ACT super score of at least 30 (or a Scholastic Assessment Test [SAT] score of at least 1350 without writing portion).

  • Graduated from high school in the prior twelve months.

  • Apply by October 1. Contact osucomrecruitment@okstate.edu for an application.

  • Submit a letter of recommendation from an ROTC officer and two letters of recommendation from high school or college instructors who have taught them in a graded course by October 15.

  • Participate in an interview with the OSU-CHS Admissions Committee during the fall semester of their freshman year at OSU.

• What are the Benefits of the ROTC Med Bound Program?

  • Students will be assigned a mentor who is committed to the military to serve as a mentor. The mentor will help the student understand the process of applying to medical school and offer support during undergrad.

  • Students will have access to clinical shadowing programs during college.

  • Students will receive financial assistance covering the cost to participate in a Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) preparation program.

• Provisional Early Acceptance into OSU-COM

  Following an in-person interview, a member of the Admissions Committee and the Assistant Director of Admissions will notify applicants of the admission decision by January 1, 2025. The applicant will be granted provisional acceptance into the ROTC Med Bound Program or be invited to apply for admission through an alternate admission option or as a traditional student in a later application cycle.

  OSU-CHS is not required to admit any certain number of ROTC Med Bound Program applicants. Applicants may only qualify for the ROTC Med School Bound Program for one application cycle.

  Students will receive support services while they meet the provisional requirements of the program.

  If provisionally accepted by OSU-CHS to the ROTC Med Bound Program, the following courses are required to be in process or completed by the end of the student’s senior year:

  • English, two semesters;

  • Biology, two semesters (including laboratory);

  • General Chemistry, two semesters;

  • Physics, two semesters;

  • Organic Chemistry, two semesters;

  • At least one upper-division (3000-4000) level science course (although 3-5 are preferred), including but not limited to:

    • Human Anatomy or Comparative Anatomy;

    • Biochemistry;

    • Microbiology;

    • Molecular Biology;

    • Histology;

    • Cellular Biology;

    • Embryology; or

    • Physiology.

  • Maintain a 3.25 or better GPA each semester of their undergraduate education.

  • Maintain a 3.25 science GPA each semester of their undergraduate education.

  • Accepted students must complete all OSU‐COM pre‐requisite courses with no grade below a “C.”

  • Submit an American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine Application Service (AACOMAS) application by February 28th of the year before the applicant’s expected matriculation to OSU-COM.

  • Submit a supplemental application, by March 30th of the year prior to the applicant’s expected matriculation to OSU-COM.

  • Must meet the admission requirements of the year prior to the applicant’s expected matriculation to OSU-COM.

  • Score a minimum of 498 on the MCAT by July 1 before they plan to matriculate to OSUCOM.

  • Must have at least 250 hours in a health‐related setting before they plan to matriculate to OSU-COM.

  • Submit a letter of deferral from the U.S. Army to enroll in medical school.
