Community Engagement & Service Learning

Community Engagement
Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences is dedicated, through our mission statement and vision, to community involvement and engagement. OSU-CHS has a variety of ways in which we promote and help our community; volunteering, community service, civic engagement, and service-learning are just some examples our commitment to the community. GivePulse is the OSU CHS platform utilized to manage and track community engagement interaction for the students, staff, and community partners.
Information for Students and Community Partners
Students:
Use GivePulse to find and track community engagement opportunities that match your interests. Connect with local organizations, log your volunteer hours, and reflect on your experiences. Stay informed about upcoming events and set notifications for new opportunities. You can access self-paced learning modules within the GivePulse platform.
Community Partners:
We've simplified how community organizations can advertise volunteer opportunities to our students. Using our GivePulse platform, anyone can submit opportunities to our students. A team will review and post appropriate submissions. If you know of volunteer opportunities or organizations needing support, please share this resource with them to enhance our community engagement efforts.
Service-Learning
At Oklahoma State University, we pride ourselves on being at the forefront of innovative educational strategies. Our Service-Learning program exemplifies this by serving as a vital bridge between education and community.
Service-Learning is an experiential learning strategy that integrates community engagement with academic goals and meaningful classroom reflection. This approach not only promotes civic responsibility but also strengthens communities and enhances the educational experience.
Unlike traditional volunteering or community service, Service-Learning fosters a reciprocal relationship between students and community partners. This collaboration not only addresses community needs but also helps students apply classroom knowledge in real-world contexts, fostering a deeper understanding and a sense of social responsibility.
