This program supports healthcare providers and other professionals who treat patients with substance use disorders (SUD). Get expert guidance on best practices through a virtual learning network with the OSU Center for Health Sciences Addiction Medicine ECHO team. Case discussions are a key part of each session.

Every Friday from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. CST. To join this ECHO session registration is a one-time requirement. Once registered, you will receive an ECHO participant guide with more information

What does the Addiction Medicine ECHO Program offer?

  • Support to assess and treat patients and their families within the medical home
  • Increased knowledge of current, evidence-based substance use disorder care
  • Sessions featuring brief expert-led didactics followed by participant case presentations
  • Opportunities for peer learning, collaboration, and shared clinical experience
  • Free CME for health care professionals *certain conditions apply
  • Select sessions eligible for credit towards the 8-hour DEA requirement (when applicable, noted in the session accreditation statement).

Why Addiction Medicine?

  • Oklahoma experiences high rates of drug overdose deaths, driven by methamphetamine and synthetic opioids like fentanyl.
  • Between 700,000 and 950,000 adult Oklahomans need services for substance abuse disorders
  • Limited access to treatment for substance abuse disorders

Topics

Sessions will address multiple topics including but not limited to:

  • Screening, assessment, and diagnosis of substance use disorders
  • Neurobiology of addiction and recovery
  • Medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD) and other pharmacologic treatments
  • Behavioral and psychosocial treatment approaches
  • Management of intoxication, withdrawal, pain, and medical complications
  • Emerging drugs and changes in the illicit drug supply
  • Care for special populations, including pregnancy and adolescents
  • Stigma reduction and provider well-being
  • Clinical tools, testing, and care coordination
