Program Director Welcome Letter
Thank you for your interest in the Oklahoma State University Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship. We are delighted that you are considering our program as the next step in your professional development and training.
Our fellowship is designed to provide a comprehensive and immersive sports medicine experience that prepares graduates to excel in a variety of clinical, academic, and athletic settings. We are committed to developing skilled, compassionate physicians who are equipped to care for athletes and active individuals of all ages and levels of competition.
As a fellow, you will gain extensive experience in the diagnosis and management of musculoskeletal injuries, sports-related medical conditions, concussion care, ultrasound-guided procedures, regenerative medicine techniques, and event coverage. Our fellows work closely with a multidisciplinary team that includes sports medicine physicians, orthopedic surgeons, athletic trainers, physical therapists, and other healthcare professionals dedicated to optimizing athlete health and performance.
A distinguishing feature of our program is the breadth of athletic coverage opportunities. Fellows serve as integral members of the sports medicine team providing care for athletes across multiple levels of competition, including NCAA Division I athletics with Oklahoma State University, the ECHL Tulsa Oilers Hockey Team, IFL Tulsa Oilers Indoor Football Team, and FC Tulsa Soccer Club.
Fellows participate in a structured curriculum that includes didactic conferences, journal clubs, ultrasound education, procedural workshops, and opportunities for teaching medical students and residents. Our goal is not only to train exceptional sports medicine physicians but also to help each fellow achieve their unique career aspirations.
We appreciate your interest in our fellowship and encourage you to learn more about our program. We look forward to reviewing your application and sharing what makes the OSU Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship a unique and rewarding training experience.
Sincerely,
Nicholas Thompson, DO, CAQSM
Fellowship Program Director
