Program Director Welcome Letter
Welcome to the Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship at Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences. Our goal is to train physicians to be highly competent forensic psychiatrists with a breadth of knowledge and experience in the field. Our twelve-month program is accredited by the ACGME.
Our curriculum is designed to meet the ACGME requirements for certification in forensic psychiatry. Rotations emphasize autonomy and skill development through direct interaction with our faculty and multiple forensic evaluation experiences. Fellows will be the lead forensic expert in a variety of forensic cases including adjudicative competence and criminal responsibility.
The Forensic Psychiatry program’s primary training site is the Oklahoma Forensic Center (OFC). OFC is the only forensic hospital in the state of Oklahoma. It is a 216-bed facility that houses defendants found incompetent to stand trial as well as individuals found Not Guilty by Reason of Mental Illness. Fellows will provide treatment and navigate the legal processes with both patient populations.
Training is augmented by a robust schedule of didactic conferences and supervision. Fellows engage in weekly didactic courses including landmark cases, forensic criminal/civil/adult/juvenile cases, forensic psychiatry lecture series, and forensic psychology testing/research. Extensive supervision is provided in forensic report writing and testifying in legal settings.
The OSUCHS Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship accepts two highly qualified physicians per year, and we continually strive to foster a family atmosphere where fellows can develop into excellent clinicians. Selection is based on COMLEX and USMLE board scores, the quality of training in Psychiatry, evaluations of competence by the psychiatry program director and other references, and the personal qualities of the candidate as evaluated during the interview process.
Feel free to contact us with any questions you may have regarding the fellowship or the application process.
Sincerely,
Reagan Gill, DO
Program Director
