Training and Education

The OMM/NMM residency program features a formal curriculum that emphasizes the development of osteopathic medicine competencies to be completed after completion of a primary residency. We have a well-rounded diverse faculty with specialized expertise various areas such as sports medicine, pediatrics, research, etc… We offer outpatient clinic and inpatient hospital training, as well as opportunities to teach in the first and second year medical school OMM lectures and labs.

 

Each resident is afforded the opportunity to extend his or her knowledge and skills to all areas of NMM and OMM through elective rotations. Our program offers a well-rounded, quality training program and is designed to prepare each resident for a successful career integrating OMM into their patient management.

OSU Medicine providers offers comprehensive medical care for the entire family – from newborns to seniors. In addition to diagnosing and treating illness, they provide preventive care, including routine checkups, health-risk assessments, immunizations and screening tests. We offer Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine at this location. Using OMM, our physicians can help relieve neck, back and other acute or chronic pain without surgery. Our services can help treat asthma, sinus disorder, carpal tunnel syndrome, migraines and more. We have bilingual staff to assist the Hispanic population. The Healthcare Center is conveniently located six blocks from OSU Center for Health Sciences, and 10 blocks from the OSU Medical Center.

The country's largest single site osteopathic hospital, OSU Medical Center, is located just blocks from the OSU Center for Health Sciences. What began as Oklahoma Osteopathic Hospital by a group of pioneering osteopathic physicians in 1944 has grown to become one of the nation's largest osteopathic health care centers. OSU Medical Center is a flagship hospital in eastern Oklahoma. Licensed for 426 beds, with premier emergency and outpatient programs, it is poised for great outreach and growth in the 21st century. OSU Medical Center is committed to quality patient care. Because the medical center sees a wide variety of high acuity cases, the postgraduate training programs are seen as a critical priority by the medical center staff and administration.

Staff physicians have trained at some of the nation's most prestigious medical institutions and have a high regard for their personal role in postgraduate education. Internships and residency positions in many different disciplines are available. OSU Medical Center is significantly involved in clinical training for medical students, nurses, therapists and technicians from several area schools and colleges.

An outpatient clinic focused on treating patients suffering from acute or chronic pain.  Dr. Ross Pope D.O. FAAO has been treating patients for more than 35 years and works to incorporate his knowledge and expertise to each resident.

 

Rotation Schedule

We follow the ACGME ONMM Basic Standards.  The majority of your training will be at our OSU Osteopathic Manipulative Medical outpatient clinic focusing on longitudinal year-round care in adults and pediatrics.

Didactics & Conferences

Didactics and journal club are personalized for each resident in order to grow their knowledge of base in NMM/OMM.  Resources are available to attend cranial courses and AAO Convocation.

 

Call Schedule

Hospital call schedule is based on an individual rotation basis.

 

Medical Student Clerkship

The OMM Clerkship provides an opportunity to further develop knowledge of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine obtained during the first two years of Osteopathic Medical Education.

 

The rotation incorporates outpatient and inpatient clinical experiences to apply principles and practices. The format is designed to use the problem-oriented approach to the patient in order to help the student understand how to incorporate OMM into the management and treatment of common musculoskeletal presentations and other common visceral presentations (asthma, COPD, ileus, nausea and vomiting, etc.) in the outpatient and hospital settings.
