Program Description

Oklahoma State University is home to both the OSU Medical Center and the OMECO Teaching Health Center pediatric residency programs.  Each program is Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accredited and designed to prepare residents to immediately enter careers in pediatric primary care, continue further training for those interested in pediatric fellowship, and qualifies the resident to sit for the American Osteopathic Board of Pediatrics (AOBP) and/or the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) board examinations. Curricula is designed to accommodate various learning styles with opportunities for experiential, didactic, research, and simulated learning.  Residents work with diverse patient populations and see a variety of pathology during their monthly rotations.  Residents at all levels manage patient care from admission to discharge in a variety of settings, provide call coverage, and work directly with primary care, hospitalists, and specialty care attending physicians.  Responsibility and autonomy increase throughout training as residents demonstrate proficiency.  Multiple opportunities exist for the pediatric residents to teach medical students and peers at the bedside, in the classroom and in the simulation laboratory.  Further, residents have the opportunity to critically evaluate and explore the medical literature, to participate in clinical research and quality improvement, and to optimize patient care through advocacy.

Our residents collaborate to provide compassionate care in the following settings:

  • General pediatric floor
  • Well newborn nursery
  • Pediatric preventative, acute, and chronic care in the ambulatory continuity clinic
  • Pediatric urgent care centers
  • Pediatric emergency room
  • Numerous inpatient and outpatient specialty services including pediatric hematology-oncology, pulmonology, cardiology, neonatology, neurology, child abuse, pediatric obesity medicine, pediatric infectious disease, pediatric surgery, osteopathic manipulative medicine, international medicine and others.

Residents in Pediatrics at Oklahoma State University are welcomed into a supportive environment where each member of the team is valued and empowered with the knowledge and skills to achieve their professional goals.  We encourage you to reach out to us if you have questions about either our OSU Medical Center or our OMECO Teaching Health Center pediatric residency programs.
