Get certified in Medical Sciences

A Graduate Certificate in Medical Sciences is earned after completing four courses of focused study in Biomedical Sciences. This degree credential can serve both as a stepping-stone into more advanced study, leading to a master’s or doctoral degree, or as a standalone educational achievement to strengthen their professional advancement opportunities. 

Overview

The Graduate Certificate in Medical Sciences (GCRT in MSCI) is an academic credential earned after completing a one-year program of focused study. The GCRT in MSCI is designed to prepare students to become more qualified applicants to medical school, masters and doctoral programs; or serve as a standalone educational achievement to assist in career development. Students admitted to this program shall receive access to Student Success services and follow-up in such a manner to provide the necessary support mechanisms to increase their probabilities of success. OSU is home to state-of-the-art technology, esteemed faculty, and excellent staff, thereby providing outstanding education and experience. 

 

Coursework

Graduate Certificate in Medical Sciences Courses (19 credit hours): 

  • BIOM 5122: Clinical Anatomy for Allied Healthcare (Summer)
  • BIOM 5616: Graduate Medical Physiology (Fall)
  • BIOM 5215: Medical Biochemistry (Fall)
  • BIOM 5316: Medical Microbiology and Immunology (Spring)

 

Admissions Requirements and Deadlines

  • Completed online application for: Summer-only deadline – May 1st  
  • Completed bachelor’s degree official transcript 
  • 3.0 GPA or higher 
  • Applicants must have completed the following prerequisite courses with no grades lower than a “C:” 
    • English (2 semesters); 
    • Biology (2 semesters including laboratory); 
    • General Chemistry (2 semesters); and 
    • Organic Chemistry (2 semesters). 
  • Three letters of recommendation preferably from professors and/or supervisors familiar with your academic ability, work ethic, and skills. (Applicants only need to provide their recommenders’ email addresses. Recommenders will then be emailed a link from which to upload their letter.) 
  • Statement of purpose describing your personal career goals and how the master’s degree will support those goals, a brief description of experience or qualifications in support of the application and the specific track you want to pursue. 
  • Skills, equipment and access for online course participation includes the capacity for independent learning, proficiency in Windows, Internet, e-mail and basic applications; multimedia computer and high-speed Internet access are necessary. 
  • Applicants graduating from schools outside the U.S. are required to submit transcripts that have been evaluated to U.S. standards 
  • $50.00 application fee 

Cost and Assistance

Students enrolled in the Medical Sciences Graduate Certificate program will complete 19 credit hours during the course of their studies. Cost estimates below are calculated based on 2021-2022 rates. Additional cost details and OSU’s tuition and fee estimator are available on the Bursar website.
