Mast Cell Activation in COVID-19 Study
Mast cells are a type of immune cell best known for their role in allergic reactions.
When these cells become overly sensitive, they can cause a condition called mast cell
activation syndrome (MCAS), which shares many symptoms with long COVID. However, there
is limited direct evidence linking mast cells to long COVID. In this study, we collected
blood samples from a small group of volunteers who had recently recovered from COVID-19
to explore whether lingering mast cell activation could help predict ongoing symptoms
three months later. The study concluded in the summer of 2025, and results are currently
being analyzed.
